We used the different war memorials on the mall to help teach the kids that while war is horrific, freedom isn't free.
The recently dedicated WWII Memorial is in the foreground of this view from the Washington Monument.
Each state is represented in the memorial. My dad is a veteran from Pennsylvania. I am so proud of him...

We tried to point out to the kids that every one of those 50,000+ names represented sacrifice and pain to each of their families and friends.
