We had all but resigned ourselves as being too late for a whitewater trip this year. As we drove into Bozeman along the Gallatin River, we happened upon an outfitter who was still doing trips. A couple of days later, the weather was warm and sunny so we went for it!
The river had Class 2 and 3 rapids. In the spring the flow is twenty-five times higher, but the flow this fall still made for a good first experience for the kids.
Everyone had to paddle when requested by our guide.
Unlike canoeing, in a raft you can spin away from an obstruction.
The autumn colors were beautiful along the river, adding to the experience.
